WWE Money In The Bank 2018: Which New Day Member Should Compete?

facebooktwitterreddit

One New Day member will be competing in the WWE Money in the Bank ladder match, but which unicorn will represent Pancake Power at the upcoming PPV?

Now that Money in the Bank includes both brands, this year’s Money in the Bank ladder match is stacked with WWE’s top headliners and 2017 and 2018’s breakthrough stars.

For Raw, two of the most over acts in WWE will be representing the red brand. Braun Strowman, who is looking more and more like a world champion with every passing week, and Finn Bálor, the first ever Universal Champion looking reclaim is place on top, will be in the match.

Bobby Roode, who has yet to really find his footing on the main roster as a face, and Kevin Owens, a great heel who has wreaked havoc on both SmackDown and Raw authority figures, will be participating in this match, as well.

As for SmackDown, we will get to witness the favorite for this match, The Miz, look to regain world champion status after awesome runs with the Intercontinental Championship, and Rusev, from Rusev Day, try to finally grab that brass ring and green suitcase.

The other two spots for SmackDown Live in the Money in the Bank match have yet to be decided. Daniel Bryan will face off against Samoa Joe for a spot, and after The New Day defeated The Bar, they will get to choose a member to participate in the match.

The New Day appeared on Miz TV last week to supposedly reveal which member would be competing, but instead, it led to a match against The Miz without ever answering the question. So, who (who? who? who?) from The New Day should have the privilege of competing at Money in the Bank.

Well, let’s break this down by the process of elimination. Big E seems to be the first choice that pops into mind. He has the size, wrestling ability, and charisma that Vince loves in his top guys. So, if there was one member that would win this match and break out as a singles star, it would be Big E.

However, it still looks like The New Day isn’t breaking up any time soon. This seems to just be a way to get one of WWE’s top acts on the PPV card without putting them in the tag team title match. So, I don’t expect any member to win the match.

This means, with other big men like Braun Strowman, Rusev, and potentially Samoa Joe in the Money in the Bank match, it wouldn’t make sense to throw another powerhouse in a ladder match when it would be difficult to stand out. So, Big E is out.

Then, there’s the guy that is tailor made for ladder matches. Kofi is an incredibly athletic, highflying, spectacle to watch in the ring, especially in ladder matches. But, as Miz pointed out, Kofi has already been in EIGHT Money in the Bank matches and didn’t win any.

Just throwing Kingston into the mix for some acrobatic highlights has been overplayed by this point, so it’s best for him to sit this one out. Besides, with all of his singles’ accolades, Kofi doesn’t need  showcase match.

That leaves us with…(drumroll please)…

Xavier Woods!

Woods is the only one of the trio, despite his ample charisma and consistent improvement in the ring, who could suffer from a New Day breakup. Kofi will have a comfortable midcard spot with his veteran status, and Big E is set to get a monster push as a face or heel once the unicorns part ways.

Xavier Woods, on the other hand, has little to no experience as a singles wrestler on the main roster and doesn’t have the size to get him to a main event spot. So, Woods needs to showcase his talents the best he can while the group is still together.

And he has done a great job of that lately by picking up key singles wins for The New Day and being the man to make the cover in their tag matches. I think the ball will once again be handed to Woods to get his feet wet in singles competition with some of WWE’s best.

If Woods can show he belongs with these top stars, he should be set for a solid singles run in the future, but if not, WWE could keep him grounded as the other two members are already set to fly. Money in the Bank is sink or swim time for Xavier Woods, and I have a feeling he will be just fine.
