WWE Money In The Bank 2018: Making The Case For Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens, despite all the odds, has made his way into the Money in the Bank ladder match, and now he should be the guy to claim the contract.

Somehow, some way, Kevin Owens is in the Money in the Bank ladder match. For Kevin Owens, this all happened thanks to fortunate timing, a solid relationship with Stephanie McMahon, and his guardian angel.

It seemed like Kevin Owens was going to miss out on this year’s Money in the Bank match after losing the first qualifying match to Braun Strowman, but KO never gave up hope. He yelled at Kurt Angle backstage over the decision and threatened to call Stephanie McMahon.

Well, his call, and prayers, were answered by Stephanie. After Roman took out Jinder Mahal before his qualifying match, Kevin Owens was announced as the Modern Day Maharaja’s replacement. So, Owens had to take on stiff competition in the form of Elias and Bobby Lashley to solidify his spot in the ladder match.

It looked like Bobby Lashley had the win, until Sami Zayn got involved. Sami went after Lashley for supposedly giving him “vertigo”, which allowed for Kevin Owens to take advantage of the opening to frog splash Elias. This was enough for him to pick up the win and compete in the Money in the Bank match.

Now, Kevin Owens is in a position to reclaim his top spot on Raw, but it certainly isn’t going to be easy. Not only does he have to beat formidable competition like The Miz, Samoa Joe/Daniel Bryan, Rusev, Finn Bálor, and Braun Strowman, but the man he would likely have to cash in his contract on is none other than the reigning, defending, undisputed Universal Champion: Brock Lesnar.

So, it is certainly a long and difficult road for KO, but I believe he should at least take the first step and win the briefcase at Money in the Bank. The briefcase is a perfect fit for Kevin’s current character, and it could provide interesting storylines and a mainstay at the top of the card.

Right now, to call Kevin Owens entitled on Raw would be an understatement. He is like a little kid taking advantage of divorced parents to get what he wants. When Kurt Angle doesn’t give him what he wants, he runs right to Stephanie to fix things for him. This gives Kevin something to hang over Kurt’s head and creates tension between the two.

Now, if we throw a briefcase into Kevin Owens’ possession, it will amp things up tremendously. Owens can blow off demands by Angle because he is a guaranteed #1 contender for the Universal Championship and doesn’t need to impress him. This constant disrespect could even lead to a match between the two down the road.

This briefcase could also be used to build a wedge between the very fragile friendship of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. There are a few ways this could go. Kevin could take the same route that he did with Jericho and dispose of Sami because he was a “tool” he was using to get to the top, but we’ve already seen that angle.

What if Sami Zayn, being the jittery and anxious and panicked individual that he is, starts to get paranoid or jealous. He could be paranoid that Owens is going to betray him after gaining the briefcase, so Sami could strike first. Or, a frustrated Zayn could become jealous that, even after following in his footsteps, Kevin Owens is still the only one of the two to win anything out of the two.

This could bring Sami Zayn to finally snap and betray his best friend. He could even betray Owens and cost him the Universal Championship when he cashes in out of pure jealousy. The we could see a whole new side in this storied a rivalry: a face Kevin Owens taking on a heel Sami Zayn.
