5. Carmella’s “Unmasking” Of Asuka Will Be Terrible

Maybe I should show more faith in Carmella, because I truly do believe that she is one of the best talkers in the business. Her reign with the SmackDown Women’s Championship has been quite good thus far, even if she draws widespread criticism for the lack of quality of her matches. Carmella is a throwback in some sense, because she does so much to make the title feel important by acting like a true heel and carrying herself like she’s a big deal.

The problem is that I don’t have faith in the creative team to deliver a well-written segment here. Every single “expose” style segment WWE has run recently has been spectacularly awful. The Bobby Lashley/Sami Zayn segment was the worst of the worst, but it’s not like Jinder Mahal’s whole schtick with Bobby Roode and Randy Orton some months ago was any better.

Carmella apparently has some “dirt” on Asuka, and she’s aiming to “unmask” the Empress of Tomorrow in some futile attempt to gain the mental edge on an opponent who is unshakeable. I’ll keep an open mind about this segment, but I’m 90% sure it’s going to be terrible. That said, it will get Carmella even more heat, so it will achieve its purpose, and we’ll likely get to see Asuka kick Carmella’s head off. Well, unless they want to save that pop for the Pay Per View…
