The June 5 edition of WWE SmackDown shined an overall bright light on the blue brand’s buildup towards Money In The Bank, especially the women’s division.

Last night’s WWE SmackDown was another stellar show in a line of stellar shows for the brand, but the women’s division was particularly impressive involving the SmackDown Women’s Championship and the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match.

Hopefully the blue brand continues this momentum in the weeks and months to come, but so far, so good after the superstar shakeup.  Let’s take a look at a few grades from the June 5 edition of WWE SmackDown.

5. Opening Segment

The SmackDown Women’s Championship scene has been focusing on the brash, arrogant champion in Carmella over the past month to month and a half.  Carmella’s heel persona has gotten better each and every week since becoming champion, but her reign will be in serious trouble at Money In The Bank.

Carmella will defend her title against Asuka in under two weeks at Money In The Bank, but last night’s SmackDown opened up with Carmella “exposing” Asuka for what she really is.  She claimed that Asuka is not what she once was and nobody is intimidated by her anymore while also saying everybody is ready for Asuka.  The Empress Of Tomorrow wouldn’t take that lying down.

Asuka came to the ring to confront Carmella, but then Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville came out to give her two cents.  They both said they wanted a piece of Asuka and after GM Paige came out and asked Asuka who she wanted to face, The Empress Of Tomorrow said she wanted to face both Rose and Deville.

This was a pretty solid segment from top to bottom, even if it kind of fell off after Carmella’s solo performance in the beginning.  She has been tremendous lately and could be considered the best champion in the WWE in terms of at least her character.  It should be interesting to see how she will attempt to get past the huge challenge of Asuka.

Who really is ready for Asuka?  At Money In The Bank, Carmella better be ready or her reign atop the SmackDown women’s division will come crashing down.

Final Grade: B
