Report: WWE Signs Charlie Morgan, Nina Samuels To Extended Tryout Deals
Nina Samuels and Charlie Morgan are two of the best characters in women’s wrestling and have put on some of the most entertaining matches on the Independent scene in 2018. So it comes as no surprise that WWE has interest in potentially signing both of these two.
At Pro Wrestling EVE’s WrestleQueendom, Charlie Morgan and Nina Samuels were two of the standous. Samuels won the WildCard Ladder Match after using every trick in the book to try and bag a win, while Morgan claimed the Pro Wrestling EVE Championship by defeating Sammii Jayne in one of 2018’s most emotional main events.
The Wrestling Observer News’s Dave Meltzer reports (hat tip to Casey Michael of Squared Circle Sirens) that Samuels and Morgan have been signed to “extended tryout deals” by WWE.
These short-term contracts are a way of preventing talented wrestlers from signing with promotions that have gained TV contracts recently, such as ITV’s World of Sport and Major League Wrestling, but these contracts may also be an indication that Samuels and Morgan will compete in the Mae Young Classic II.
Last year’s Mae Young Classic was a huge success, bringing extremely talented women’s wrestlers all over the world to compete in a tournament. Some wrestlers, such as Kairi Sane and Shayna Baszler, have become centerpieces of NXT programming, and others, such as Toni Storm and Mia Yim, boosted their stocks greatly despite not signing contracts with WWE.
Morgan and Samuels did not compete in the first Mae Young Classic, and they would be incredible additions to this year’s tournament. Samuels is one of my favorite heels in pro wrestling, and her ability to insult and tease the crowd is truly a skill worth coveting. More importantly, Samuels goes above and beyond to make babyfaces look good, and she isn’t afraid of making herself look silly in the process, which is something so many heels today fail to do.
Meanwhile, Morgan is one of the best ten women’s wrestlers on this planet. Her chase for the Pro Wrestling EVE Championship this year was incredible, and she could one day become one of WWE’s most bad-ass babyfaces.
