WWE NXT TakeOver Chicago II Results, Highlights, And Grades
Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Nikki Cross For The NXT Women’s Championship
Result: Shayna Baszler puts Nikki Cross to SLEEP
Rating: 3.25 out of 5.0 Stars
Shayna Baszler started the match by going into her fighting stance, and Nikki Cross did nothing. She did absolutely nothing in response. She just screamed “Do it!”
Cross was begging Shayna to hit her, and when Baszler did, she just started bouncing around with glee before crawling towards Baszler and laughing. And Baszler? Well, she was just SHOCKED and creeped out. For the first time, Baszler seemed scared.
Baszler went for the Kirifuda Clutch early, but Cross is just as smart as she is insane, pushing Baszler into the turnbuckles to break the hold.
When Cross jumped on Baszler’s back, Baszler got her off by literally slamming her as hard as possible onto the steel ramp. Cross may be crazy, but Shayna sure as heel came to play. She followed that up with a big knee to Cross, who just barely kickd out at two before eating some more hard fists from the NXT Women’s Champion.
But to her credit, Cross took everything Shayna gave her with a smile on her face and a twisted laugh, no matter how hard Shayna kicked her. So just like that, Cross started to come back with a vengeance.
The most hair-rising moment of the match came when Baszler REALLY locked in the Kirifuda Clutch on Cross in the center of the ring. Cross was fighting through the pain for a good minute, but then it started to have no effect. Cross started smiling. Like, what?
And then she went to sleep. And curtains.
So Cross, with a smile on her face, chose “NAP” over “TAP”. That was a sweet moment, but it was kind of deflating to see her lose. Regardless, I’m so pumped for Cross to join up with Alexander Wolfe, Killian Dain, and Eric Young on SmackDown Live. Because we all know she’s the real leader of Sanity.
