Dean Ambrose Must Feud With Seth Rollins, Not Roman Reigns
By Josh Raibick
Summer is here, and the days are counting down until The Lunatic Fringe, Dean Ambrose returns to WWE television. When Ambrose does return, it is expected that he will assume a role as a top heel. The first feud that heel Ambrose has will be important, and to guarantee the heat that he needs it must be with Seth Rollins.
Originally before Ambrose had surgery on a torn triceps tendon in December it was believed that he would turn heel on his recently reunited brother of the Shield, Rollins. Now there is speculation that Ambrose will have his sights set on the WWE Universal Championship and Roman Reigns for his return feud.
Obviously nothing is set in stone currently, but an interesting question arises, would Ambrose be better suited to feud with Rollins or Reigns? With both Rollins and Reigns being booked as babyfaces, it is clear in this scenario that Ambrose will play the role of a heel.
On one hand, Ambrose and Reigns have never had a one on one feud, so the rivalry would be fresh. Yet again, Ambrose and Rollins have not feuded in a couple years, and with Ambrose as the heel and Rollins as the face, it would be a fresh story for their rivalry.
The determining factor would be which superstar between Reigns and Rollins can get enough sympathy from the WWE Universe to in turn get heat on Ambrose. The reason this is the most important factor in determining Ambrose’s first feud is that it sets the tone for his heel run.
If Ambrose attacks Reigns, there is a chance that Ambrose becomes the “cool heel”. The issue with cool heels is they fail to get heat, and at the same time hurt the ability of their babyface opponents to get more over.
So a return with Reigns won’t only accomplish the opposite goal in the short term, but also the long term as well. Whereas Ambrose setting his sights on The Architect will eliminate his chances of becoming the cool heel.
Currently Rollins is the most over superstar on WWE Raw, and his performances have matched his crowd reactions. Reigns is over with parts of the WWE Universe (more than people think), but Rollins is unanimously over.
There is a low risk and high reward by having Ambrose feud with Rollins, because the match quality has proven to be there in past matches with both superstars, and the story makes sense. Ambrose was last seen being attacked by Samoa Joe, but who is to say that he does not blame Rollins for what happened?
Ambrose is supposed to be crazy, and most heels usually have irrational thought to justify their actions, so this scenario would not be too far fetched. Also, Rollins not only tagged with Jason Jordan for a period of time, but he has also enjoyed a bump up in singles’ success in Ambrose’s absence.
There is good reason for Ambrose to come back jealous of Rollins. The safest move is to have Ambrose return as a babyface for a couple weeks and pretend that everything is fine with Rollins.
This allows fans to simmer down from the return cheers that will certainly come from a Lunatic Fringe return. Just as everything appears to be fine, that is when Ambrose should make a big physical statement to Rollins.

A feud with Rollins is an exciting return for Ambrose, but the benefit of such a program is part of a long term plan.
