Sami Zayn Has Two Torn Rotator Cuffs, Likely Out Until 2019

Sami Zayn unwisely decided to try and push Bobby Lashley’s buttons, which led to him getting hit with three vertical suplexes en route to a loss at Money in the Bank. Unfortunately, Zayn will be out for a lengthy spell of time, because he underwent surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder and will need a second procedure to repair a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder.

Although Sami Zayn hasn’t been a mainstay on Monday Night Raw ever since being fired from SmackDown Live by commissioner Shane McMahon after a bloody feud that also involved Kevin Owens and Daniel Bryan, he has remained one of WWE’s most consistent performers. His recent feud with Bobby Lashley did neither man no favors, but Zayn did his best to put his always-improving promo skills to work to at least salvage something out of the program.

It is a joy to watch Zayn work every week, which makes this latest news even more saddening. In a recent interview with WWE.com, Zayn revealed that he has TWO torn rotator cuffs. He stated that he’s already underwent surgery to repair his right shoulder, which he initially injured at a live event in Montreal last August.

In six to seven weeks, he will need surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder, and he detailed how his left shoulder has been a problem spot for him for quite some time, as he injured it in his debut against John Cena.

The full interview is awesome, and it’s very smart from both Zayn and WWE. Not only does WWE get all the clicks from “breaking” the story themselves, but it allows Zayn to openly lay out of the facts about his injury. WWE and Zayn get to control the story, the narrative, and show fans a little bit more what it’s like for a superstar to be injured.

Zayn discusses his outlook on the injury and concluded the interview by stating that he hopes he’s ready to return at around WrestleMania 35.

I hope Zayn will be healed up and ready to go by then, and I wish him the best in his recovery. Rotator cuff injuries are extremely painful, and I cannot believe Zayn has had to suffer from this injury in both shoulders. I’ll miss watching him until his return, but he will be back better than ever once he pushes through this setback.
