Bobby Lashley & Roman Reigns vs. The Revival
This match was set up by Kurt Angle coming out to announce there would be a multi-man match at Extreme Rules to determine the next challenger for Brock Lesnar’s Universal Title. He was immediately interrupted by Roman Reigns, who came out to predictably say that he’s the “uncrowned Universal Champion.” Roman would be interrupted by Bobby Lashley, who said that he’s been waiting a long time to have a match against Brock Lesnar, and that he could beat him. Lashley did mess up one of his lines saying that Roman “can’t beat Roman Reigns.”
The beginning of this segment was quite awful with Roman cutting the same whining promo we’ve had to listen to for the past several months, but it turned a corner when Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder came out. The Revival talked about how they are the best tag team in WWE, but just haven’t gotten the opportunity to prove it, and that they’d take the opportunity to challenge Roman and Bobby to a tag team match. I also liked the Revival telling us what their strategy was; banking on that Roman and Bobby couldn’t work together as a team, and when The Revival beat them it will sky-rocket their careers.
Roman had a good close to this segment where he mockingly repeated one of the Revival’s lines, then had the great closing line of “If you want to come in this ring, I don’t mind taking you to school. Maybe if Bob over here pays attention he might learn something too.” This is the Roman Reigns I like seeing.
Getting to the match, I enjoyed this. Any time I get to see The Revival on TV is a plus. Dash and Dawson did a good job of doing their typical tag team strategy, isolating their opponent, using quick tags, and bending the rules when possible. The match ended though with Roman setting up for the Spear, but Lashley tagging himself in, and hitting a spear of his own to finish it. This was a good match, and a step in the right direction for developing character for Bobby Lashley.
