The June 26 edition of WWE SmackDown featured heavily on in-ring competition and it led to yet another solid episode for the blue brand.

Last night’s WWE SmackDown was a stellar show that not only built on current storylines, but also added an unexpected development regarding the SmackDown Tag Team Championship picture at Extreme Rules with a reunion over five years in the making.

The blue brand is shaping up for a memorable showing at Extreme Rules with several high-profiled matches.  With that being said, let’s take a look at a few grades from the June 26 edition of WWE SmackDown.

5. Opening Segment

The Miz and Daniel Bryan have a long history together that is unlike any other superstars currently on the main roster in the WWE.  Both superstars have been vital parts of each other’s careers up to this point and the same could be said for last week’s turn of events.

Bryan looked like he had a great chance of winning the gauntlet match to become number one contender for the WWE Championship, but after a Bludgeon Brothers attack followed by The Miz picking the bones and pinning Bryan, that number one contender hope went out the door.  Last night’s SmackDown opened up with Miz TV with special guests Harper and Rowan.

Miz was basking in the glory of eliminating Bryan from the gauntlet match the previous week and wanted to find out the reason why The Bludgeon Brothers attacked Bryan.  They just stood there menacingly, however, and didn’t give Miz an answer.  Then Bryan came out to address their actions from the previous week.

He said he wants a piece of them, which led to Harper answering the challenge and the two would face off later in the night.  This was a solid opening segment and despite it lacking fireworks, The Miz produced stellar mic work, as usual, and Bryan calling out the SmackDown Tag Team Champions and The A-Lister was a nice touch as well.

This storyline would get a lot more surprising later in the night, but it opened up the show in a solid way last night.

Final Grade: B
