WWE Extreme Rules 2018: Will There Be A Match For The Miz?
By Dalton Quix
It’s hard to believe that WWE’s Most Must See Superstar, The Miz, may not have a match at Extreme Rules this year. Hopefully, that will not be the case.
Ever since The Miz’s fiery verbal attack on Daniel Bryan on an episode of Talking Smack back in 2016, The Miz’s career resurgence has led him to some of the best work of his 10+ year career.
He helped SmackDown Live go from the “B Show” to “The Show” with his epic feud with Ziggler, and then he took his talents to Raw and elevated the Intercontinental Championship as the show’s main title since Lesnar was never around.
Now, it seems like The Miz’s hard work over the past couple of years (and his entire career) will finally see some bigger moments come to fruition. After losing the Intercontinental Championship to Rollins, The Miz got shipped back to SmackDown Live where his biggest rival, Daniel Bryan, just returned to in ring competition.
Now, the rivalry between The Miz and Daniel Bryan has been going on since 2010 when The Miz was Daniel Bryan’s Pro in NXT, and it has continuously escalated from there all the way into 2018. So, fans are just waiting before we get a legitimate main event caliber blow off match between the two.

This feud undoubtedly deserves the spotlight of a “Big Four” PPV, so it could happen at SummerSlam, or they could raise the stakes and wait until one of them is WWE Champion, and they can finally square in the main event (at least SmackDown‘s main event) of WrestleMania.
That’s all well and good for future booking, but what about right now? Right now, Miz’s rival is competing for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships with Kane at Extreme Rules, and feuds are already set in place for the two singles championships. AJ Styles will be facing Rusev, and Jeff Hardy will likely be defending the United States Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura at Extreme Rules.
So, that leaves The A-Lister directionless heading into Extreme Rules. This is incredibly shocking, because one of WWE’s most highly anticipated and intriguing storylines revolves around him, and WWE has been promoting his new Mz & Mrs. show that comes out in July like crazy. Oh, yeah and we can’t forget that he is the star of the upcoming blockbuster film: Ruff Ruff Ref!
However, he isn’t the only SmackDown star that doesn’t know what his role will be at the PPV. The likes of Samoa Joe, New Day, The Bar, and others like Shelton Benjamin and Tye Dillinger don’t have any feuds in place for Extreme Rules.
The easy move here would be to rehash his feud with The New Day for Extreme Rules. We saw them get under each other’s skins in the lead up to Money in the Bank and participate in a couple matches against each other, but Extreme Rules could provide proper closure.
Miz could team up with The Bar again for another six man tag, but that match already took place on an episode of SmackDown. I would much rather have the odd couple team of The Miz and Samoa Joe compete against two members of The New Day.
All members involved in the feud could provide some great entertainment, and Samoa Joe can just absolutely destroy The Miz right after their match, win or lose. It would be a lot of fun and would get all (or most) of the blue brand’s hottest stars on the matchcard for the upcoming PPV.
Next: What Should Creative Do With Dillinger
Really, it doesn’t matter what The Miz is doing at Extreme Rules, it just matters that he is at Extreme Rules. He is far too talented and valuable to be kept off the card, and if he doesn’t have a match at the PPV, maybe WWE should reconsider the whole cobranded PPVs thing.
