Ronda Rousey’s Return Fueled by Revenge on Alexa Bliss

Ronda Rousey is a WWE Superstar on the hunt. Rousey’s suspension from the company on the June 18 edition of Monday Night Raw continues and fans are patiently waiting for her return. But that does not apply to Alexa Bliss.

This is the ongoing narrative of Ronda Rousey’s current situation in WWE and it’s been a great bit of booking thus far. Ronda came into the company on top when she made her ring debut at WrestleMania 34. She was expected to do well on that night of course. But she did much better than anyone ever expected.

Rousey was a natural and it was obvious that WWE had made the right call by signing her. Her critics feared she would be out of her element and would perhaps fail in her new venture. But she has done nothing but impress since she came in.

Her next match versus Nia Jax at Money in the Bank on June 17 was arguably better than her match at Mania. Rousey didn’t have Triple H or Kurt Angle in the ring to support her. All she has was Jax, who is not exactly a veteran talent. But Ronda came through and made it clear that she was taking her new role very seriously.

Of course no one in WWE can coast through for very long before obstacles come their way and the same is true for The Baddest Woman on the Planet. Rousey was on her way to defeating Jax and becoming the new Raw women’s champion when it was suddenly taken away from her by Bliss, who cashed in her newly won Money in the Bank briefcase.

It was the first time that Rousey was truly on the defensive. She had every reason to be angry because of Alexa’s interference. So when both women appeared on Raw the next night, Ronda was determined to be the only one leaving under her own power.

But in the world of WWE, getting revenge is one thing but taking out aggression on company employees is something else. When Rousey put her hands on Angle and a group of referees, she sealed her fate. Angle suspended her and Ronda disappeared from WWE programming.

That decision was met with some heavy disapproval from fans, who believed Ronda was just too hot to remove from TV. Her act of violence against Bliss garnered even more support than she had before. It was proof positive that Bliss is only popular to a fault. She is still a heel and fans will always pop for anyone that puts Alexa in her place.

But it also added to Rousey’s killer instinct, which has only shown itself a handful of times. Ronda definitely has an edge but Kurt Angle’s constant mentoring didn’t help. Once Rousey’s toughness and heart were questioned, no one could stop her from unleashing her frustration. Angle was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

So as the weeks pass since Ronda’s suspension, it’s apparent that WWE has reasons for making the move happen. Just seven days after Rousey put Bliss through a table, Bayley attacked Sasha Banks. That moment may or may not have happened had Ronda still been around. The angle between Banks and Bayley needed something more and that’s exactly what happened.

Yes Rousey was red hot going into the June 18 Raw but her suspension is no longer the story. Her return is what matters now. Fans know that she will come back with a vengeance and when she does, she will be on a mission to get Alexa Bliss. But could Ronda show up at Extreme Rules?

Cageside Seats is speculating that Rousey will interfere in the Raw Women’s Championship match between Bliss and Nia Jax on July 15. If so, then Ronda may or may not cost Bliss the title. Either way, a match between the two will likely happen at SummerSlam on August 19.

Of course if WWE wants to up the ante, then the match will feature the Raw Women’s Championship. In that case, it could indeed be Rousey versus Bliss. Or perhaps WWE is planning on a Triple Threat Match with Ronda, Alexa and Nia all competing for the title. Fans would surely be happy with that and it’s obvious now that Rousey can handle any type of match. But will she walk away with the belt?

It’s only logical to assume that WWE will eventually put a championship around the waist of Ronda Rousey. What was the point of bringing her in if not to book her as a champion at some point? She will certainly have an abundance of momentum when she comes back and she will carry that with her to SummerSlam. How could WWE not make the move and give her the title?

The only reason to wait is obvious. Ronda Rousey is going to face Charlotte Flair. It may not be in the cards for 2018 but it’s surely going to happen in 2019 and it‘s surely going to be a championship match. WrestleMania 35 is perhaps the best place for that match, which means WWE has to get Ronda through the second half of 2018 first.

But what if Rousey goes into 2019 as the Raw women’s champion and Charlotte goes in as the SmackDown women’s champion? A showdown between them at Mania could be title for title or it could be for title unification. Is WWE ready to make that move?

The fact is that long before she gets to that possible point, Ronda Rousey is first going to get Alexa Bliss. She’s been counting down the days until her return and her fans are likely doing the same. Rousey will have razor sharp focus when she comes back. More importantly, she will be extremely hard to stop. Ronda will be ready and so will the fans.
