At this point, it’s ancient Impact Wrestling history. But, there was a time where Kurt Angle held every available championship in the former TNA.
That’s right. He was the World Heavyweight Champion, the X-Division Champions, and the Tag Team Champions. The year was 2007. It was an odd time for pro wrestling. There were limo explosions, illegitimate children, and a former Olympic gold medalist carried around five (if you count the IWGP title — they don’t) different championship belts. A lot has changed since then. Kurt Angle has illegitimate children and runs Raw. The lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins owns the NWA. Impact Wrestling has undergone more reboots than you could count on your hands. So could this ever happen again? Well, this year, we saw another Steiner Math promo, the odds are at least 141 and 2/3%.
It’s unclear even if this move would be good for business because it’s hard to say if it did anyone any favors the first time out. But, if you stop and think about how nostalgia-driven our culture is today, this is a seemingly realistic proposal. Nickelodeon just brought back Double Dare. Oceans 8 came out this year. Oh, and remember? Roseanne was back for like a week. So provided whichever wrestler Impact decided to book as their grandstanding Grandslam Champion isn’t a racist, this could work. If there is demand for it, the fine folks at Impact should follow the law and supply it! Until then, you’ll have to do with this speculative slideshow.
So with all that in mind, which members of Impact’s crop would be capable of rising to the top, not just once, but three times or four (for the Knockouts)?
