The Mae Young Classic 2018 will be one of the most highly anticipated wrestling events of the year, and WWE has already started the hype train by announcing that former Divas Champion Kaitlyn will be among those competing in the tournament.

There’s nothing the WWE Universe likes more than fantasy booking, and the Mae Young Classic 2018 is an event that fans have been trying to piece together for months. There are so many women’s wrestlers around the world that we want to see face off against each other on the big stage, because we received some incredibly exciting matchups last year, such as Toni Storm vs. Kairi Sane, which was likely the match of the tournament.

It will be interesting to see which wrestlers WWE invites to the Mae Young Classic this year, because there could be some callbacks and some new faces. For example, we saw Serena Deeb compete in the 2017 MYC, and she’s now working in the Performance Center to help develop the next crop of elite women’s wrestlers in WWE.

This year, WWE has announced that Kaitlyn will be making her return to the company (in a way) by competing in the Mae Young Classic this year, much like Serena did last year. You can check out Cathy Kelly’s video on the announcement below, and WWE also has a formal write-up here.

Kaitlyn, Celeste Bonin, is an elite athlete who has been working incredibly hard to get back to the top of the ladder. She’s wrestler plenty of Independent dates, making her return earlier this year in February. She defeated Rachael Ellering at Costal Championship Wrestling’s “Breaking Chains”, and this is especially noteworthy since Ellering competed in last year’s MYC.

Few wrestlers have Kaitlyn’s pedigree as a strength athlete in multiple sports and as a competitor in WWE. She is, again, a former Divas Champion, and it’s easy to forget that she’s still just 31. Kaitlyn could make a more permanent return to WWE after making a huge splash in the Mae Young Classic, because I am sure she’s better than ever.

This announcement is incredibly exciting, and it’s made me even more hyped to learn about the rest of the competitor’s in this year’s tournament.
