WWE Rumors: Dean Ambrose Expected To Return After SummerSlam 2018

It’s been a while since the WWE Universe has been able to watch Dean Ambrose in action, and a recent report indicates that we’ll have to wait a couple of more months before the beloved “Lunatic Fringe” graces our television screens again.

Dean Ambrose is one of WWE’s most popular superstars, and I don’t think there’s a single wrestler whose return from an injury is as anticipated as Ambrose’s. He was spotted in Las Vegas at the Stanley Cup Final, sporting a new look that made him seem a little more heel-ish, fueling speculation that he could return as a heel.

The Lunatic With A Fridge (as Rusev once called him) suffered a torn triceps in December of last year and has been out since, but it feels like his return could come any week now. WWE is definitely going to make his return a surprise, taking advantage of the fact that Ambrose doesn’t use social media and is normally off the grid. The only time we really see him outside of WWE is when he’s spotted at sporting events in Las Vegas with his wife (and the best interviewer in the business) Renee Young.

According to WrestleVotes, a source informed them that fans should not expect to see Ambrose back on television until after SummerSlam, with a September return looking more likely than anything else.

When WWE Superstars suffer injuries, their return to the ring doesn’t necessarily match up with their return to television. While a superstar may be cleared to wrestle again, WWE has to find a way to integrate them into their current storylines, which explains why Jason Jordan hasn’t been on television yet.

A post-SummerSlam return for Ambrose makes plenty of sense, because it means he’d be back on Raw after a bunch of major storylines are settled. One of those storylines could be the end of Brock Lesnar’s reign as Universal Champion, as Brock has several potential challengers and plans to fight Daniel Cormier in UFC. Ambrose could potentially turn heel and feud with former Shield members Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, though sometimes the “popular” option isn’t always the correct one.

All I can say is that I can’t wait for Ambrose to return, and I would also file this tweet from WrestleVotes as a “rumor” to keep in mind going forward. WWE wants to keep Ambrose’s return a complete surprise, because it will be a special moment. Furthermore, nothing is set in stone in WWE, and WrestleVotes themselves said that they “can’t say for certain”.
