Report: Tessa Blanchard’s Deal With Impact Wrestling Is For 2 Years

On July 10th, it was revealed that Impact Wrestling Knockout Tessa Blanchard signed a new long term contract with the company. It has since been revealed by Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer that Tessa’s contract will keep her committed to Impact Wrestling for two years.

Tessa made her first appearance for Impact Wrestling on April 22nd during the Redemption pay-per-view.

Two years could feel way longer for Impact Wrestling, with their content quality making strides over the past view month and their storyline movement constantly shifting. Tessa’s already been established as a dominant heel in her feuds versus Kiera Hogan and Madison Rayne, and two years is plenty of time to either strongly solidify that identity or give her an a more dynamic storyline that could provide real character growth.

This of course calls into question how quickly we’ll be seeing Tessa becoming more involved in the Knockouts Championship picture. If it hasn’t already been made obvious, I’m a pretty big Tessa Blanchard fan, so I’d be inclined to think (or hope) that a Knockouts Championship reign is in the cards for Tessa down the line.

How long can we expect to wait for that championship? Who knows. The Knockouts division is currently extremely strong, and there are plenty of women in that locker room who would be great fits to be Knockout Championship contenders. It would make sense for Impact to tie up Tessa’s storyline with Madison Rayne at the moment, but depending on the outcome of Madison’s match at Slammiversary, we could potentially expect that storyline to conclude with a championship opportunity for Tessa.

Looking towards the future, how can we expect the realm of women’s wrestling to shift in accordance to Tessa’s signing? Ideally, this signing puts the Knockouts Division (and Impact Wrestling as a whole) on the map for more free agent women.

It would be wonderful for this signing to draw in more independent names like Rachael Ellering, who appeared on Impact Wrestling in 2017, or for a former Knockouts Champion like Chelsea Greene/Laurel Van Ness to make a return to Impact, or for former NXT performer Kimber Lee to reunite with her old indie tag-partner Allie.

Whatever the future holds for Tessa and the Knockouts Division, Tessa’s two-year contract is a testament to the fact that Knockouts Division and Impact Wrestling are making a strong and conscious effort to earn more respect for their content and prove that they’re absolutely a force to be reckoned with in the world of professional wrestling.
