SANADA (Los Ingobernables de Japon)

SANADA will be making his third appearance in the G1 this year and will be looking to increase his standing. The G1 is a perfect opportunity for SANADA to prove that he isn’t just a sidekick to Tetsuya Naito. One of the more intriguing matches for Naito happens to be his match with SANADA. SANADA has slowly been working his way up the card in NJPW, having had an IWGP title match with Okada that saw him come very close to defeating the former champion. SANADA will be eager to get a shot at Kenny Omega to prove he belongs in the conversation.

Tomohiro Ishii (CHAOS)

Tomohiro Ishii is the iron man of NJPW, almost never taking time off. Ishii is a tank. A tank that will smash you with a well placed forearm. A tank that will get angry when you look at him the wrong way and will headbutt you and drop you with a brainbuster or a lariat. I may have taken this analogy too far. He has been continually in the upper midcard to main event for years now, and constantly provides fantastic matches.

His selling in the ring is incredible, drawing you into everything that he does. Ishii has been the guy NJPW goes to when they want to elevate someone, as he always gives them the matches that get them over. Ishii is currently feuding with Minoru Suzuki in Rev Pro in the UK, and you can expect his recent loss of their championship will just make him angrier.

Toru Yano (CHAOS)

YTR is a constant in the G1 of recent years. This doesn’t mean he’s done well. But he has always provided great, entertaining matches. When I say great, I do not mean 5* classics, but very entertaining comedy matches. Yano, who as recently claimed that he taught Shinsuke Nakamura (his CHAOS stablemate) all he knows about low blows.

We can totally expect Yano to have many hilarious matches this G1 that offer a change of pace from all the seriousness. I am greatly anticipating his next match with Kenny Omega, which is always one of my favorite and funniest matches. I’m still holding out for Chuck Taylor vs. Toru Yano someday, but for now, we must wait.
