WWE Rumors: Roman Reigns vs. Bobby Lashley To Main Event Extreme Rules?
There are several matches that could main event WWE Extreme Rules 2018, but a recent report indicates that the final spot of the show may go to Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley.
WWE Extreme Rules 2018 will feature a 30-minute Ironman Match between Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship, but it looks like Ziggler and Rollins will have to steal the show from somebody else again.
No, they won’t be stealing it from the WWE Championship match, which will pit Rusev against current champ AJ Styles, but rather Bobby Lashley and Roman Reigns.
At least, that’s what WrestleVotes is reporting. Per a source close to them, Reigns vs. Lashley has been penciled in as the main event of Extreme Rules, with some backstage pushing for Ziggler vs. Rollins to go on last. However, the report states that it is “unlikely” for the Intercontinental Championship match to main event.
Many WWE fans have been upset at the WWE Championship hasn’t been the main event of a Pay Per View since Fastlane. At WrestleMania 34, the Universal Title main evented, and Roman Reigns was the main event at Backlash against Samoa Joe. The Money in the Bank main event was the Men’s Ladder Match, with the Last Man Standing match between Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura occurring earlier in the show.
Some were hopeful that Styles would get his main event at Extreme Rules against Rusev, but it looks like that won’t be the case. Ziggler vs. Rollins seems to be the most hyped up match, but I can understand why WWE is going with Reigns vs. Lashley, even if it isn’t a popular decision.
At the end of the day, Reigns is the main event because he’s Raw’s biggest player. WWE puts him in that position, and they want to continue to show that he is the top contender to Brock Lesnar’s Universal Championship. The winner of Lashley vs. Reigns is the unofficial No. 1 Contender, so there are huge implications for the winner of this match, likely adding to WWE’s logic that it should be the main event.

Of course, this is just a report, and nothing is set in stone by any means. A different match could main event the show, especially if WWE gets nervous about the fans in Pittsburgh walking out o the arena if they REALLY don’t like Reigns vs. Lashley. The fans in New Jersey did this to the Reigns vs. Joe match at Backlash, but WWE didn’t seem to care. All I can say, personally, is that I hope Lashley vs. Reigns is a great match, because both men, especially Lashley, could use a big-time fight with Lesnar looming.
