Seth Rollins’s match with Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler looks like a barnburner on paper. Here’s why he should win that match and the title at WWE Extreme Rules 2018.
After spending a couple of years treading water as a babyface (thanks largely to WWE’s uneven booking), Seth Rollins has had a really good 2018. Starting with his scintillating performance in that memorable gauntlet match this past February on RAW, Rollins all but washed away the memories of his tepid face turn and has blossomed into one of the best protagonists in the company leading into WWE Extreme Rules 2018.
Rollins parlayed that momentum to an entertaining, albeit brief, Intercontinental Championship reign. As champion, Rollins was a fighting champion that thrived on competition and delivering excellence in the ring. WWE effectively juxtaposed Rollins as the anti-Brock Lesnar in a way that didn’t seem forced (the same can’t be said for Rollins’ Shield stablemate Roman Reigns).
Just as Rollins was settling in as IC Champ, WWE decided to use Rollins’ cache to elevate…Dolph Ziggler. Yes, the guy that was always on the cusp of breaking through to the main event scene until the company gave up on him. That guy halted Rollins’ momentum.
Rollins and Ziggler have an IC Title match scheduled for tonight’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view. With the Iron Man stipulation added to the bout, many fans expect these two to deliver a classic on a show where not much else looks particularly appealing. While most fans and journalists expect Ziggler to retain, one could argue that Rollins should regain the title. These three points should support that case.
