Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins put it all on the line at WWE Extreme Rules 2018 last night in an Iron Man match, with Ziggler coming out on top thanks to Drew McIntyre’s interference in sudden death overtime.

The WWE Universe wasn’t sure which match would end up main eventing WWE Extreme Rules 2018, and many people expected Roman Reigns vs. Bobby Lashley to close the show. While Lashley vs. Reigns proved to be an excellent match, it seemed like fans were more excited when they realized Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins would be the main event. Unfortunately, the crowd was more interested in counting down to the clock in the 30-minute Iron Man match, but that didn’t stop Ziggler and Rollins from performing at a high level in the ring.

I’ve seen many fans criticize the Iron Man match, with most of the criticisms focusing on the fact that there were nine total falls in 30 minutes. Most of those falls came early in the match, too.

In WWE coverage, not enough people decide to take a step back and look at the story being told inside the ring, so I thought it would be a fun exercise to take a closer look at each of the falls in this match to try and untangle all the layers. Iron Man matches feel like sporting events, which makes this type of analysis even more appropriate than it would be for, say, a tag team match.
