It’s time for The Machine to win his first major singles championship, and Slammiversary 2018 would serve as the perfect place for his coronation.

Slammiversary 2018 is crunch time for Brian Cage. No, not like ab crunch, he’d like that too much. His X-Division championship match against Matt Sydal is arguably the biggest opportunity of his career. If you asked any jabroni off the street to predict this match and only showed them the above graphic, an overwhelming majority would likely pick the challenger. Even if you watch Impact every week, you know he’s the favorite, since he’s yet to be pinned.

Despite his impressive and imposing physical presence, Cage has yet to climb the mountain of a top promotion. It’s been too crowded at the top of Lucha Underground for him to make an ascent. Losing at Impact Wrestling’s anniversary show would see him continue to plateau as a just another powerhouse. No amount of alps analogies can understate how imperative it is that dang Machine gets himself some strap.

It’s a mystery as to why no major wrestling company has pulled the trigger on Weapon X as their guy or at least one of their guys. Everybody loves a good caper, but writing one before Slammiversary seems a bit premature. Perhaps, if he doesn’t get the job done, then maybe someone can take the time to try and crack the case . But, this piece isn’t about why it hasn’t happened. It’s about why it should happen. Here are three reasons why Cage needs to walk out on July 22 with the X-Division Championship.
