6. Backlash
Backlash was not a good show. Like, at all. With that being said, there was one match that saved this show from being a complete disaster…
The Good:
God bless The Miz. God bless Seth Rollins. God bless America. What an incredible Intercontinental Championship match these two had to open the main show. Both guys were at the top of their game. Rollins got all of his best stuff in, all while selling and bumping like a champ, and Miz was flawless as the wily, opportunistic heel.
Chock full of incredible, well-timed spots, convincing near falls, and impeccable storytelling, this was a true MOTY contender.
The Meh:
After Rollins and Miz, Backlash pretty much immediately plummeted into a rotten stink-fest. There are a couple matches I’m tempted to put in the “Meh” range, but I’d be lying to myself and to you. It was all pretty terrible.
The Bad:
I don’t want to get carried away bashing this show, so I’m just going to rundown the rest of the card and give each match a one word description…
Ruby Riott vs Bayley: sad. Nia Jax vs Alexa Bliss: clunky. Randy Orton vs Jeff Hardy: BORING. Daniel Bryan vs Big Cass: why? Carmella vs Charlotte: disgraceful. AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura: bollocks (lol). Braun Strowman & Bobby Lashley vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn: WHY? Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe: disappointing.
In conclusion… Just watch Rollins vs Miz and let’s pretend the rest of this show didn’t happen.
