Bobby Lashley and Roman Reigns square off for a chance to face Universal Champion Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam this week on WWE Raw. Plus Stephanie McMahon has a historic announcement. Follow along with our live review.
Previously on WWE Raw, Brock Lesnar… well, Brock Lesnar stayed home again. But his advocate Paul Heyman agreed to a Universal Championship match at SummerSlam. Then half the locker room tried to become the other half of that match. Ronda Rousey again violated her suspension, and was rewarded for it! And Sasha Banks loves Bayley now, in a scene straight from Braveheart.
This week on Raw, there are two already announced matches, both of which have major implications moving forward. First up is the Raw Tag Team Championship rematch from Extreme Rules. (What, you thought I was listing a different match first?)
Improbably, the B-Team are the Raw Tag Team Champions. In fairness, Curtis Axel is a former Intercontinental Champion, and Bo Dallas is a former NXT Champion. But still. The team they defeated for the titles, The Deleters of Worlds, have cashed in their rematch clause for July 23. Can Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy regain the gold? Or will the B-Team continue to surprise everyone?
The other match is for the right to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam. Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley each won a triple threat match last week to get to this point. Reigns has had several unsuccessful championship matches over the past year. And he lost to Lashley at Extreme Rules. Will Roman get back on track tonight? Or will Lashley dominate again?
Of course, the biggest story heading into WWE Raw tonight is Stephanie McMahon’s “historic” announcement. There’s been tons of speculation as to what it could be, ranging from the mundane to the wild. What is so earth-shattering that Stephanie needs to return to Raw for the first time since the early spring?
