2. The New Day vs. SAnitY
The tag team division has been controlled by The Bludgeon Brothers since WrestleMania 34 when they became SmackDown Tag Team Champions. But a newly-formed tag team title tournament is bound to shake things up and give Harper and Rowan new competition at SummerSlam.
The first round of that tournament began last night when The New Day battled SAnitY with the winner going on to face the winner of The Bar vs. The Usos, which takes place next week. The New Day and SAnitY have been going at it for a few weeks now, including an Extreme Rules tables match which was won by SAnitY.
But this match had different stakes with a SmackDown Tag Team Championship opportunity hanging in the balance. As expected, these teams put on a solid match as they always do. Big E and Xavier Woods pulled out all the stops to ensure a victory over Killian Dain and Alexander Wolfe. That would pay off for The New Day in the long run.
Once the chaos cleared towards the end of the match, The New Day’s tandem offense was enough to get the win and advance to the final round of the tournament. The match did a lot in a relatively short amount of time, although it would have been nice to see it go longer given what these teams can do together.
Despite that, this was still a solid match between two of the best tag teams in the WWE today and an important one regarding the SmackDown Tag Team Championship tournament.
