Why Braun Strowman Should Cash in Money in the Bank at SummerSlam

Braun Strowman and Kevin Owens go head-to-head at SummerSlam for Braun’s Money in the Bank Briefcase. Braun needs to retain the briefcase and cash in on the winner of the main event later in the night.

Braun Strowman has made a living recently out of making Kevin Owens’ life a living hell. He’s flipped his car, thrown him off of ladders through a table, thrown him off the top of the steel cage through the announce table, and even locked him in a port-a-potty and threw it off the RAW stage. But, Owens has been a thorn in Brauns side too, and because of all of this, Braun and KO are destined to meet at the “Biggest Party of the Summer” with the Money in the Bank briefcase on the line.

Many fans want Owens to somehow beat Braun and take the briefcase off of the Monster Among Men at SummerSlam, and for him to the one that cashes in on presumably Roman Reigns at SummerSlam to capture the Universal Championship for the second time in his career.

Seeing KO win, and then be chased out of the arena by a pissed off Braun, while an equally pissed off Roman and Brock Lesnar look on, would be an interesting way to see SummerSlam end, and it would, no doubt lead to a lot of people tuning in to RAW the next night to see what happens.

Then seeing Braun chase Owens out of arena’s and out of towns week after week would be entertaining as well, up to a certain point, but you can only go so far with that story, until you either put the title on Braun, or quell his momentum, and the fans support for him by having KO beat him yet again.

No doubt, Owens would be a great champion. He was the first time, but he had Jericho to help him during that entire run. I’m not saying Owens couldn’t be just as entertaining on his own, but maybe waiting to give Owens another run until Zayn returns, and eventually, have him and Zayn feud over the belt would be the better option.

For Zayn to finally win his first title on the main roster, off of the man who has held him down for the majority of his career. What a great storyline that would be.

But Braun is at the top of his game right now, and not putting the title on him would be asinine. Braun is white hot and has been for a while. The fact that he has been able to maintain the fans support, at the level he has, for so long is typically unheard of in WWE nowadays. The only other two RAW superstars who have come close are Seth Rollins and Finn Balor, but even their popularity has been a roller coaster ride in recent months.

Braun has been the only one to always get a good pop when his music hits every week. As such, he may be the only one who can walk out of SummerSlam with the red strap over his shoulder with the fans actually cheering.

Look, we all know that the Brooklyn crowd is going to hijack the Roman/Brock match. It’s not exactly a secret that Brooklyn is one of the loudest crowds WWE sees all year, and they know how to voice their opinion during a match. Imagine WrestleMania 34 only ten times worse. We’ll be lucky if we can hear anything else besides them booing and chanting about how boring the match is.

Even if it actually isn’t a bad match, that won’t matter. The WWE Universe has made it clear they don’t want to see Roman vs. Brock again, and when the fans don’t want to see something, they will make it known.

Braun has been Vince’s Plan-B. That’s why he had Braun win the Money in the Bank briefcase in the first place. He knew the crowd probably wouldn’t take to Roman winning, so he came up with the best alternative he had at his disposal, Braun Strowman.

It’s nothing against Roman, I’m just reading the fans. They’ve made it clear, at least on my timeline, that Roman vs. Brock is the last match they want to see at SummerSlam, and Roman as champion is the last thing they want also. Well, maybe not the last thing they want. The absolute last thing they want is for Brock to retain and there to not be a champion on RAW every week for the foreseeable future. But Roman clearly isn’t their favorite to walk out of Brooklyn as champ.

However, if Brock does retain then Braun is the most viable option to beat the Beast Incarnate. Especially a beaten and battered Beast Incarnate.

WWE could even do an angle where Heyman tries to strut out after Lesnar gets beaten by Braun to raise Brauns’ hand, in an attempt to make Braun the next “Paul Heyman Guy.” Instead, Braun just looks down at Heyman, picks him up, and power slams him.

This could lead to one of two things: Either it gives Heyman a reason to back someone else at the top of the card, and aid them in their quest to dethrone the now monstrous champion. Or, Heyman could handpick someone out of NXT to back, say someone like Alestair Black.

Braun needs this win. He can’t just keep running roughshod over the entire roster. I mean he can, but eventually, it will lose its luster. He needs a title around his waist, and he’s too big of a star for the Intercontinental Championship. If Braun is going to be champion it needs to be a Heavyweight Championship.

WWE needs to just keep it simple. Keep Braun in guerilla just in case fans don’t take a liking to Roman winning and have him ready to cash in. You know that match is going to be hell, and whoever wins, is probably going to be worse for wear, which is the perfect time for a cash-in. One running power slam later, and Braun Strowman is the new Universal Champion, and a new saga kicks off on Monday Night Raw.

The storylines that could come out of this would be extremely interesting. Braun vs. Roman is always great, though we have seen that match a few times over the last year and a half. Braun and Seth could no doubt have great matches. As could Braun and Drew McIntyre, and Braun and Dolph Ziggler. As to who could beat Braun, well, that’s a story in and of its own.
