The Aug. 6 edition of WWE Raw lacked in a lot of ways and just wasn’t a very entertaining show from top to bottom, but it did feature a few memorable moments along the way.
Last night’s WWE Raw felt more like a circa 2009 episode of WWE Superstars from time to time, but the Monday night in-ring debut of Ronda Rousey did take place and a few other SummerSlam related notes took place.
With SummerSlam less than two weeks away, there is only one more chance for the red brand to gain momentum. Let’s take a look at five key takeaways from the Aug. 6 edition of WWE Raw.
5. Baron Corbin Keeps Improving
It was only a year ago that Baron Corbin felt like he would be the next WWE Champion at some point. The Lone Wolf had the Money in the Bank briefcase in hand, but would soon cash in and lose his opportunity and he never quite recovered from his demotion of sorts.
A switch over to Raw in the superstar shakeup following WrestleMania 34 seemed like a desperation move, but so far, it has worked out pretty well. The Constable Corbin gimmick has caught on over the past couple months and his character work has improved leaps and bounds over what it was just a year earlier.
Last night’s show opened up with GM Kurt Angle and Constable Corbin in the ring, but Angle would soon be interrupted by Roman Reigns, who had a lot to get off his chest regarding the Brock Lesnar situation. Reigns and Corbin would eventually exchange words with The Big Dog even calling out Constable Corbin and Angle took notice, putting the two in a match immediately.
The two put on a solid, surprisingly lengthier match that really made Corbin look good. He would eventually succumb to The Big Dog and the outside interaction with Finn Balor, but Corbin still impressed. His improvement since last year becomes more noticeable all the time and it’s a positive sight to see given how fans weren’t buying into him not long ago.
Constable Corbin has shown more improvement than almost anybody in the WWE over the past year and that should bode well for his future.
