4. Mickie James
When Mickie James returned to WWE at the tail-end of 2016 for the first time in six years it was as a replacement for the performer whose career is so indelibly linked to her own. Her match with Asuka at NXT TakeOver: Toronto was originally scheduled to feature Trish Stratus. Since that night, James has returned as a full-time performer on the main roster and has aligned herself with current RAW Women’s Champion, Alexa Bliss, for much of her tenure.
While it has been many years since their paths crossed inside a WWE ring, James and Stratus are undoubtedly two of the best in-ring performers of their generation. Their Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania 22 is still considered to be one of the best female wrestling matches of all-time, and possibly the greatest women’s division match ever at a WrestleMania.
Revisiting this rivalry would be a nostalgic trip down memory lane for wrestling fans who started watching WWE programming in the early 2000’s, but it would also provide younger viewers with an opportunity to see two of the greatest performers in history add one more match to their highlight reel. The match quality would still likely be very high due to Mickie James full-time status, but it still doesn’t hold as much appeal as a match with Trish’s greatest rival.
