7. Nexus vs Team WWE

Say what you will about the Summerslam match that followed the feud, and continue to debate who really should have won that match at the end of the night, but the fact remains that the Nexus vs WWE storyline that took place that summer was some of the most compelling pieces of television that the WWE had put on in years at that point.

Following an inaugural season of NXT–back when it was nothing but a glorified game show–fans were curious to see where the season’s winner, Wade Barrett, would wind up on the main roster. We were all astonished to see that Barrett would not come alone. On the June 7th episode of Raw, he’d arrive with all the members and cause absolute mayhem at ringside. Tearing the ring apart, attacking wrestlers, announcers…it was chaos.

Now established as Nexus with Barrett as their leader, the NXT rookies were looking to make a statement. They were on a quest to dominate the WWE by running the established main eventers out of the company. This forced enemies to come together as allies in order to take out a shared enemy in the Nexus.

After a summer filled with sneak attacks, brawls, and ambushes, Team WWE–which consisted of John Cena, Edge, Chris Jericho, R-Truth, John Morrison, Bret Hart, and a returning Daniel Bryan–coming together to take on Nexus in an Elimination Tag Team Match at SummerSlam.
