WWE NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4 Results, Highlights, And Grades
The Undisputed Era (c) vs. Moustache Mountain For The NXT Tag Team Championships
Result: The Undisputed Era Retains The NXT Tag Team Championships
Rating: Excellent
Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly will kick off an NXT TakeOver for the second straight time, as they tore the house down at NXT TakeOver: Chicago II against Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan in a sensational title defense. These two will once again defend their titles at a TakeOver Special, but this will be their first TakeOver battle against Moustache Mountain despite having already faced Tyler Bate and Trent Seven twice.
Bate and Seven defeated The Undisputed Era for the titles in the United Kingdom, but UE ripped the titles back on NXT TV after Bate heartbreakingly threw in the towel on behalf of his injured tag team partner. Moustache Mountain is out for revenge, but will they get it against a tag team that is firing on all cylinders?
The match immediately starts with the Undisputed Era getting an unfair advantage, as Roderick Strong hits at Tyler Bate on the apron. Quickly, the action breaks down, as both tag teams begin trading punches in the center of the ring. As fate would have it, Moustache Mountain win the battle early due to their superior striking. Meanwhile, Undisputed Era’s grappling advantage could serve them well as the match continues.
UE uses their grappling skills to isolate Trent Seven in their corner. They have identified Seven as the weak link, based on the outcome of their last match against Moustache Mountain, so we’ll see if history repeats itself.
Instead, Strong and O’Reilly end up focusing on Bate, with Strong putting him in a vicious-looking Gory Special in the middle of the ring. Bate fights out of it, but he can’t overcome the subsequent attack from Kyle O’Reilly, who works Bate’s legs to great effect.
Bate fights off O’Reilly and Strong, and he’s eventually able to tag in Seven. He cleans house, dominating Strong and O’Reilly with pure power, even forcing uncharacteristic communication errors from the Undisputed Era.
We get dual submission holds, as Strong hits the “Strong Hold” on Seven, and Bate is locked in an excellent triangle choke by O’Reilly. However, Bate shows insane strength, picking up O’Reilly while in the hold and slamming him into Strong to break up that second submission hold on Seven. It’s not even fair how strong Bate is.
This leads to a ridiculous sequence of moves from Bate, which culminates in a Tyler Driver that Strong somehow kicks out of at 2.99.
Sadly, Bate’s knee injury from earlier gets tweaked yet again. Noticing this, O’Reilly puts Bate in a brutal Heel Hook, and the crowd is on the edge of its seat. This time, it’s Seven looking on, desperately begging for a tag as his friend is writhing in pain.
Seven contemplates throwing in the towel, but he throws it into the crowd, encouraging Bate to fight for the tag. Bate crawls to his side, doing whatever it takes to keep his team in it.
And he does it! He tags Seven in!
O’Reilly gets turned inside-out for a two-count, but Seven stays on KOR. He tags Bate in, and Bate fends off Strong. Moustache Mountain hits their finish, but O’Reilly kicks out! The Undisputed Era are showing even more resilience than we thought!
At the end of the day, the Undisputed Era pick up the win, defeating their toughest challenge for the NXT Tag Team Titles to this point.
Rating: EXCELLENT, This match had it all, and it really picked up at the end. I COMPLETELY fell for the last two “near-falls”. You can always count on these two tag teams to get you hyped up for a show. The out-of-nowhere post-match attack from War Raiders was the icing on the cake! That feud will be insane!
