Braun Strowman vs. Kevin Owens; If Strowman Loses, Owens Wins the Money in the Bank Contract

Result: Braun Strowman defeated Kevin Owens via pinfall

Rating: 1.25 out of 5 stars

Quick history lesson: The last time a Money in the Bank contract was put on the line was December 2012 at TLC, which was also held in Barclays Center. Dolph Ziggler successfully defended the contract in a ladder match against John Cena after AJ Lee pushed over the ladder while Cena was on the verge of victory.

Continuing our Mr. Blackwell theme for the evening, loving KO’s gear here. I really love event-specific gear, like what Dream has been doing in NXT, or Seth Rollins’s “white Power Ranger” gear from SummerSlam 2015. Pro wrestling could use more green, too — Moustache Mountain went with green at TakeOver, so maybe the trend is building.

Speaking of building, this match had three months of build for that? A rematch from Extreme Rules, which was kind of a rematch from Money in the Bank, and Strowman won every. Single. Time. Why would anyone take Owens seriously moving forward after this? Sure, it’s Braun Strowman, but Owens is a former Universal Champion. This is absurd.

I’m also on record as saying that Strowman didn’t need the briefcase, so losing it through some ridiculous sequence as per the stipulation would have been perfect. Maybe Braun gets DQ’d, and Owens gets the case. But nah, let’s make Owens look like a gigantic punk with no business in the same ring as Strowman, that works much better.

Hopefully Braun cashes in tonight just so I don’t lose my mind waiting for him to do it.
