If you saw SummerSlam this past weekend, you are either really happy, or enraged at the result of the main event.

Brock Lesnar’s 504 day reign of terror as Universal Champion came to an end after The Big Dog hit four Spears on The Conquerer to claim his title. While most of the WWE Universe were annoyed with how little the World Champion appeared on Raw over nearly two years, some are more outraged at Roman Reigns being the new champion simply because he’s Roman Reigns.

The polarizing reaction to Roman Reigns has been a persistent issue for WWE ever since the company started committing to pushing him to be their “Guy” in early 2015. Ever since his awe inspiring negative ovation at the Royal Rumble that year, Roman Reigns has been The Guy to hate.

At one point in time, maybe that hate was warranted. It did come at a time when Reigns was unproven as a singles star. He wasn’t going out every night and having the best match on the card, nor was he getting the loudest reactions of the night every night, or even cutting the most talked about promos of the week.

Fast forward three years later, and Roman has done all of that. Multiple times. At this point in his career, he is more than deserving of being Universal Champion and the reigning face of the company. At this point in time, criticisms about Reigns being a bad wrestler or a bad champion are just petty and stale. We should all be loving what Roman is doing, rather than making up reasons why he sucks.
