Just over two weeks remain between now and the annual WWE gimmick pay-per-view, Hell in a Cell. A handful of matches have already been made and some of the company’s top stars have a clear path in front of them. One star who has seen a slight resurgence since SummerSlam is Finn Balor.

Finn Balor’s “Demon” gimmick made a surprise reappearance at the biggest party of the summer and squashed Constable Baron Corbin in resounding fashion. The following night on RAW, Balor took part in an exceptional main event as the first challenger to the newly crowned Universal Champion, Roman Reigns. While he was ultimately unsuccessful in that effort, Balor’s positioning in the top storyline on the red brand was a drastic change from his recent stint in mid-card purgatory.

His return to Universal Championship contention was exciting for his many fans, but this lofty position is unlikely to continue at Hell in a Cell. The finish to his match against Reigns on RAW may offer some clues about his next direction or we may be forced to endure the continuation of a feud that was dead in the water long ago.

A superstar as talented as the Irishman deserves to be pushed as such, but with an increasingly stacked roster and the reintroduction of dual branded pay-per-views, those opportunities are becoming harder to come by. Let’s now explore who the former Universal Champion might line up against on Sunday 16th September.
