WWE Creative has struggled to write angles that immediately engross fans in what happens in and out of the ring. However, these examples stand out as some of the best in recent years.

Depending upon who you ask, professional wrestling is interesting because a few different reasons. Everything from the athletic accolades in the ring, intriguing characters and over-the-top storylines has become points of attraction for fans all over the world.

Today’s professional wrestling is quite different than those of previous generations. To many it seems like the focus has slowly changed from the ability to tell stories, toward shocking the viewing audience with more exciting and fast paced matches. Even though it’s clear that the attention span of today’s fan is different than those in the past, there’s still something worth noting when a fantastic angle is told through action in the ring and everything that occurs outside of it. Unfortunately, this is an area where the WWE has struggled as of late.

It seems like WWE Creative is struggling to develop storylines that matter on a week to week basis. Much of the booking is paint by numbers; lacking the originality that occurred in the generations of yesterday. However, there are some gems in today’s WWE that stand out. The New Era began in 2016 and during that time these are five examples of strong story telling that have and are occurring in the various WWE brands.

Some of these stories have links that began long before the wrestlers were a part of the WWE roster, but for many, that makes them much more interesting at this point. These stories include everything that makes an angle in professional wrestling; capable performers, history, and believability. At the end of the day, these stories show that WWE Creative can still develop a narrative that hooks fans in a way that many wish they would, week in and week out.
