With TakeOver: Brooklyn IV now in the rear-view mirror, the brand shifted its attention towards WWE NXT TakeOver: WarGames II on this week’s show.

After last week’s post-TakeOver show, WWE NXT began to set the wheels in motion for several new storylines on this week’s episode.

Johnny Gargano made his first appearance since Takeover: Brooklyn to address his defeat to Tommaso Ciampa, while in the main event, The Undisputed Era took on North American champion, Ricochet, and UK champion, Pete Dunne.

The episode also planted the seeds for several new feuds and featured several squash matches to help give some superstars some momentum heading into the final third of 2018.

Let’s take a look at all of the action from this week’s episode of NXT.

Johnny Gargano Addresses the Audience

Johnny Gargano was out to give an impassioned speech to kick off this week’s show. Gargano addressed his defeat to Ciampa at TakeOver: Brooklyn IV, and talked about how he let everybody, including himself down during his match-up.

He says that he couldn’t control his emotions and that he became something that he hated- Tommaso Ciampa. He says he needs to be better for the fans and Candice, but he doesn’t know how at the moment.

General manager, William Regal, makes his way to the ring and asks Gargano if he was the one who took out former NXT champion, Aleister Black a few weeks ago. Gargano tells Regal to look him in the eyes and ask him again.

Before Gargano can answer, Velveteen Dream makes his way to the ring and says that people should be talking about his victory at Takeover, instead of Gargano. He calls Gargano ‘Johnny Failure’ and gets up on the apron. Gargano loses it and throws his crutch at The Dream. Before anything physical can happen though, Regal tells the two men that they will meet in the ring next week.

This was a really good opening segment and Gargano, as always, was excellent here. My only real gripe with this is that they should have kept Gargano off television for a little longer. The idea of being drawn to the dark side is an interesting twist in his narrative, and it would have maybe benefitted from a longer absence.

It looks as though Gargano is going to be feuding with Velveteen Dream for the next few months, which will give fans a bit of a break until Gargano and Ciampa inevitably meet again later down the line.
