WWE SmackDown Grades: The Miz And Maryse Get A Dose Of The Truth

The Sept. 4 edition of WWE SmackDown furthered practically every storyline the blue brand has to offer with another stellar show in a long line of stellar shows as of late.
Last night’s WWE SmackDown kicked off the month of September for the blue brand with a bang and saw a solid mix of in-ring and promo work from top to bottom with Hell In A Cell less than two weeks away.
Several of the brand’s top storylines are coming together nicely heading into Hell In A Cell and others are starting to develop as well. Let’s take a look at a few grades from the Sept. 4 edition of WWE SmackDown.
5. Opening Segment
A big mixed tag team match will take place at Hell In A Cell that will take the Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz feud to another level. Now that Maryse is involved in The Miz’s behalf and Brie Bella is involved in Bryan’s behalf, things are bound to get interesting when the two sides collide.
Miz and Maryse have been able to one-up Bryan and Brie lately, but last night would end up turning out different for the “It Couple.” Last night’s show was opened up with Bryan and Brie being interviewed in the ring and footage of last week’s sneak attack by Miz and Maryse was shown. There was also footage shown of Miz and Maryse calling them out earlier in the day when they knew nobody else was in the arena.
Bryan and Brie would both call them cowards again along with other remarks before Andrade Cien Almas and Zelina Vega came out to interrupt. Bryan faced Almas the week before and Almas wanted another shot at Bryan this week. Vega got in a few disparaging remarks and Almas said he will enjoy beating Bryan down again.
And as SmackDown went to commercial, the two were preparing for the match and it would take place after the commercial. This was a pretty straightforward opening segment that really didn’t do a whole lot, but it did give The Miz and Maryse more heat as if they needed it. The dynamic with Almas and Vega has added a slightly different layer to this picture over the past couple weeks.
Last night’s opening segment went from the issue between Bryan and Miz to a rematch between Bryan and Almas in what turned out to be a relatively good opening segment.
Final Grade: B-
