NJPW DESTRUCTION 2018 Predictions: A Win For Hiroshi Tanahashi?
from: njpw1972
NJPW DESTRUCTION is upon us. The tour is set to span across thirteen nights in September, with three main shows featuring huge matches between some of the company’s top stars. Will Omega’s Championship reign be cut short by The Stone Pitbull? Will Okada defeat The Ace and take his Wrestle Kingdom main event contract?…
DESTRUCTION in Hiroshima (September 15th)
NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship: Taiji Ishimori, Tonga Loa, & Tama Tonga(c) vs Ryusuke Taguchi, David Finlay, and Juice Robinson
It’s always extremely difficult to predict NJPW’s 6 Man Championship matches, and this is no exception. On one hand, it feels like Firing Squad needs the win to maintain some sense of strength and progress as a group. On the other, it’s fair to argue that the NEVER belts don’t really carry enough value to validate the group’s success anyways, so why not hotshot them to a fun babyface team and move the BC OGs onto something more important?
It’s tough to call, but I think I’ll go with Taguchi Japan here. Tonga and Loa are set to face The Young Bucks for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships on September 30th at Fighting Spirit Unleashed, so it makes sense for them to drop these belts here and move on.
Maybe Ishimori attacks Taguchi post match after a roll up finish, setting up a singles program between the two of them. Could be fun… Anyways…
Prediction: Taguchi, Finlay, Robinson

IWGP Heavyweight Championship: Kenny Omega(c) vs Tomohiro Ishii
It’s hard to imagine Omega dropping the belt until at least Wrestle Kingdom, but who knows, maybe they’ll surprise us. It would certainly be a welcome surprise. Nothing against Kenny (of course he deserves a long title reign), but Ishii has been an absolute BEAST for the company for years and he’s never really gotten his moment in the sun.
Still, head over heart, I don’t think The Stone Pitbull has much of a chance here. Wrong place wrong time. They’ll have an awesome match, and I’m sure there will be multiple moments throughout that will make us forget about logic, but The Best Bout Machine will almost certainly stand tall in the end.
Prediction: Omega
