WWE SmackDown Live: Results, Highlights, and Grades from September 18
It’s the SmackDown Live after Hell In A Cell, and Sunday night’s event left us buzzing. Tonight, we’ll get an update on the controversial ending to the WWE Championship match between AJ Style and Samoa Joe, as well as a United States Championship match between Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev.
The blue brand definitely held their on Sunday night at the co-branded Hell In A Cell pay-per-view, but perhaps the biggest story stemming from the event was the odd ending to the WWE Championship match between champion AJ Style and Samoa Joe. At the end of the match, Joe attempted the Coquina Clutch on Styles, but sent him flying far back enough to secure a pin.
By the third count, however, it seemed that Styles was tapping out. The referee still awarded the match to Styles, much to the ire of Joe.
We’ll see the fallout of that tonight. Styles will have a non-title match with Andrade “Cien” Almas tonight, and I’ll bet Joe will make an appearance.
Noticeably missing from Hell In A Cell was a championship defense from the United States Champion, Shinsuke Nakamura. Tonight, GM Paige has vowed to make up for that, and Nakamura will defend his championship against Rusev, who lost an opportunity to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championsip on Sunday with his partner Aiden English.
I’m personally very curious to see what the ramifications of Becky Lynch winning the SmackDown Women’s Championship will be. She finally gained the prize she so desperately sought, even at the price of her best friend. Will Charlotte Flair be invoking her rematch clause tonight? Is Becky still on a warpath? These are the important questions!
We will also hopefully see more news of the status of Jeff Hardy after this absolutely brutal Hell In A Cell match with Randy Orton. WWE released a ton of videos saying The Charismatic Enigma was suffering from some internal bleeding, not to mention RANDY ORTON TWISTED JEFF HARDY’S EARLOBE WITH A SCREWDRIVER, AND THAT IS A BIG NO-NO.
Tune is tonight for what should be a very eventful episode of SmackDown Live, and follow along with us here tonight for live reviews, analysis, results, grades, and the like!
