WWE World Cup To Take Place at Crown Jewel
By Kyle Boris
The WWE is once again headed to Saudi Arabia for a huge event as part of the long-term pairing between the two entities. This time around, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia will be home to WWE Crown Jewel. One of the more intriguing aspects of the event is the announcement that the first-ever WWE World Cup tournament will take place.
There aren’t many details yet surrounding the tournament, but according to the WWE, they will be looking to “determine the best in the world.” As of this writing, no other matches have been announced besides the triple threat between Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman and Brock Lesner for the Universal Title, so it is possible the WWE World Cup takes up a majority of the show.
A tournament like this could be a fresh way to get people invested in WWE Crown Jewel. The event isn’t taking place until November 2nd, so it could also help to fill RAW and Smackdown with more meaningful matches on a weekly basis leading up to the event. Each week there could be one or two qualifying matches with superstars trying to win their way into the WWE World Cup.
Athletes in other sports always seemed to relish the opportunity to represent their respective countries against the world’s best, and WWE superstars would assumably want to do the same inside the ring.
As stated earlier, there hasn’t been any announcements regarding who will compete in the event, but let’s look at the 16 countries that should be represented, and the possible superstars who could be involved.
United States
The United States would have the most superstars to choose from with the likes of Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley, Chad Gable, and Randy Orton all worthy options. However, the man who should represent the USA is Daniel Bryan.
It can be argued that Bryan hasn’t had a monumental victory since returning to the roster, but a win as the first champion of the WWE World Cup tournament could be just what he needs. It would give him the opportunity to go up against many different opponents, with the potential to steal the show each time out.
Japan
Shinsuke Nakamura
Dominican Republic
No Way Jose
Holland
Aleister Black
Canada
Bobby Roode, Tyler Breeze, and Tye Dillinger each hail from Canada, providing plenty of options for the WWE World Cup. The top two choices, however, should be Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho. I’m sure both men would love to represent the great country of Canada, and honestly, either would be a fantastic pick.
Chris Jericho is known to show up when you least expect him, so an appearance in the WWE World Cup would be fantastic, but the Chris Jericho Cruise returns October 31 and Crown Jewel is taking place November 2. If anyone can pull it off it’s Y2J, but we’ll go with Shania Twain’s number one fan in Kevin Owens.
Switzerland
Cesaro
Scotland
Drew McIntyre
Philippines
TJP
England
It would really be a coin flip in deciding if Pete Dunne or Tyler Bate should represent England at Crown Jewel. In fact, let’s just have the two wrestle again to determine who it should be. I think we’re all winners in that scenario.
Mexico
Andrade “Cien” Almas
Ghana
Kofi Kingston
Iran
Ariya Daivari
Ireland
Irishmen Sheamus and Killian Dain would be tough to take down in potential qualifying matches, but if anyone can do it, it’s Finn Balor. Balor would immediately be a favorite to win the entire tournament and potential clashes with Daniel Bryan(USA) and Andrade “Cien” Almas(Mexico) would make the WWE World Cup must-see in a hurry.
India
Jinder Mahal
Bulgaria
Rusev
Australia
Buddy Murphy
The first WWE World Cup winner will be crowned at the appropriately named Crown Jewel. Tune into the WWE Network on November 2nd to see who rises to the top and be sure to let us know who you would like to see represent your country.
