Impact Wrestling Sending Team to Face Bullet Club on Jericho cruise
By Scott Howard
Some of the brightest stars in Impact Wrestling are set to take on Bullet Club next month – which team will survive the match?
A team of all stars from Impact Wrestling will be taking on the Bullet Club in an elimination match when the Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Rager sets sail from Florida in little more than a month.
Impact will be represented by Sami Callihan, Brian Cage, John Hennigan and LAX (Santana and Ortiz) on the cruise while Cody Rhodes, Marty Scurll, Adam ‘Hangman’ Page and The Young Bucks (Nick and Matt Jackson) will carry the Bullet Club banner.
Though the potential audience for the match will be limited, it’s yet another sign that Impact Wrestling’s reputation is rebounding amongst wrestling fans who may have tuned out during the company’s downtimes (and there’s been many).
Callihan was the first Impact star to sign on for the event – literally threatening to invade the boat back in June – and will also meet Scurll in a singles’ match. LAX were booked in late July and will also be taking on The Young Bucks.
Cage and Hennigan both issued open challenges to the Bullet Club through social media in August, setting the stage for the elimination bout. It’s a testament to everyone involved that the varying promotions — NJPW, Ring of Honor, and Impact — can work together for an event such as this. After the success of All In earlier in September, this may become the new normal.
Other matches announced for the cruise, which runs from Oct. 27 to 31, include Alpha Club (Jericho and the Bucks) vs Bullet Club (Kenny Omega, Rhodes and Scurll) and the 16-man Sea of Honor tournament featuring Jay Lethal, Christopher Daniels, Silas Young, Flip Gordon, Jay Briscoe, Mark Briscoe, Kazarian and the Beer City Bruiser.
While the in-ring action may be the primary draw for fans, the cruise from Miami to the Bahamas also features comedy, live music, meet-and-greet sessions and more. With four nights at sea, there’s bound to be little down time for the fans on board — or the talent involved in making the event a possibility.
The event will be hosted by the legendary announce team of Jim Ross and Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler and also includes appearances from hall-of-famers ‘Diamond’ Dallas Page, Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat and Mick Foley.
