Report: Tenille Dashwood expected to sign WOH contract, needs shoulder surgery
Tenille Dashwood has been one of the most important wrestlers on the ROH roster since joining “Women of Honor” earlier this year at “Honor Reigns Supreme”, and she is reportedly expected to sign with the company shortly.
On Friday night’s “Death Before Dishonor” show, Tenille Dashwood challenged Sumie Sakai for the Women of Honor Championship, making it Dashwood’s first WOH Title match since joining Ring of Honor in February. The match was given plenty of time to develop, and both Dashwood and Sakai showed fans and the promotion that the Women of Honor Championship has earned a lengthy match and key Pay Per View going forward.
Coming into the match, Dashwood was nursing a shoulder injury, as her right shoulder was all taped up. Sakai ruthlessly went after Dashwood’s shoulder, eventually winning the match by trapping her in an armbar. Weirdly enough, Dashwood passed out in the submission, which was likely designed to protect her from tapping out.
At the most recent ROH TV tapings, Dashwood addressed the crowd and stated that she’s not OK physically. She spoke about her battles with psoriasis, which caused her to withdraw from the ROH Re-United tour last month, and a recent shoulder injury.
PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson reports that Dashwood is indeed suffering from a shoulder injury, and she has been wrestling on that injured shoulder. The injury will require surgery, and Johnson notes that a backstage attack on Dashwood during the “Death Before Dishonor” PPV may have been a way to write her out storyline-wise. He added that there’s no word of how serious her injury is or what the timetable for her return is.
Johnson also reports that Dashwood has an offer to sign with Ring of Honor. Per Johnson, she is expected to sign with ROH “shortly”, as the injury has not changed the “status” of the contract offer to officially the promotion as one of Women of Honor’s cornerstones.
If Dashwood does officially sign, Women of Honor will have inked both her and Madison Rayne to contracts. Rayne signed with WOH earlier this month after losing to Sakai in a WOH Title match that was aired on the Sept. 2 episode of ROH TV. She also worked the Mae Young Classic 2 and faced Su Yung for the Knockouts Championship this summer.
In Dashwood and Rayne, WOH has two of the most high-profile women’s wrestlers on the planet to build their division around, in addition to other talents like Sakai, Karen Q, and Kelly Klein.
Hopefully Dashwood’s surgery goes well, and hopefully she is able to return to the ring sooner rather than later. Her bravery in opening up about her struggles with psoriasis was moving, and it helped many others share their own stories. She has been through a lot over the past several months, and I can’t wait to see her potentially return to ROH as an officially-signed member of the roster. Dashwood has a world of talent and so much to give ROH as a future champion.
