WWE SmackDown Live Preview and Predictions: Will Samoa Joe Pay?
Tonight we prepare for the go-home episode of SmackDown Live before the pay-per-view Super Show-Down airs this Saturday, October 6th. Paige will address Samoa Joe’s surprise visit to AJ Styles’ home last week, and Becky Lynch has a “Super Showdown Surprise” for us this evening. Color me excited.
Last week on SmackDown, we saw Samoa Joe take his place among the best of horror movie villains, as he appeared on Smackdown via satellite video live from right outside AJ Styles’ front door, where his wife and children were probably blissfully unaware. Styles could do nothing but pace frantically (albeit unconvincingly, but I digress) while begging Joe not to touch his family.
Of course, SmackDown Live GM Paige will have to address Joe and his actions on this week’s episode. However, I still wouldn’t expect to see Joe on SmackDown exactly when he’s supposed to be there. I’d be willing to bet that just like last week, Paige will call upon Joe, and Joe won’t come out right away.
AJ Styles would be livid about this, calling Joe out and daring him into the ring. Expect a sneak attack from Joe, just like the ones he made useful during the build-up to Style vs. Joe at SummerSlam this year.
Becky Lynch has been on a roll since allegedly turning heel and winning the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Lest we forget last week when she mowed Charlotte over during a photoshoot, saying, “take my picture, take the champs’s picture”.
Tonight, Becky will have a “Super Showdown Surprise” for us, and while it’s vague, by god I’m sure it’ll be great. Becky has made claims that she’s still overlooked by WWE even as the SmackDown Women’s Champion, so I won’t be surpised if whatever Becky has in store for us, it’s all about her.
Think about how effective this approach would be in getting Becky real heel heat if this wasn’t exactly what WWE audiences wanted. While this new storyline has been a goldmine for Becky, and it’s been highly entertaining, it’s a little bit sad to think that WWE get’s it’s stars over the best when they totally don’t think they are.
I would also assume that Charlotte will take offense to Becky’s surprise in some way, shape, or form and will be out in the ring during the segment to add that last pinch of salt before the two battle for the SmackDown Women’s Championship on Saturday.
The Fabulous Truth, R-Truth and Carmella, will take on Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas and Zelina Vega in mixed-tag action. I wrote an article a bit back about how Carmella could be an ideal opponent for Zelina in a singles story-line, so my little New York heart flutters thinking about this match.
Thinking about this match specifically, WWE has no choice in my opinion but to have Andrade and Zelina take the win on this one. Andrade is the future of SmackDown Live, hands down, and to give him a loss to R-Truth, who while amazing, has been made to look a little on the unstable side, would be a detriment to Andrade’s momentum.
On another hand, Carmella’s roll in The Fabulous Truth has been lacking. Carmella during her reign as SmackDown Women’s Champion was on fire on the mic, and she’s been rather muted since teaming up with Truth. R-Truth and Carmella, if given equal amounts of promo time, could really knock it out of the park as a pair.
All this tonight, plus Shelton Benjamin gets an opportunity against Daniel Bryan, and NEW! DAY COOKS! Tune in to SmackDown Live tonight at 8PM/7PM CT on the USA Network, and be sure to follow along with us on Twitter @FansidedDDT!
