Rey Mysterio is a three-time world champion in WWE and one of the most respected wrestlers in history. He will help take an already-stacked SmackDown Live roster to the next level. But it would also be a good idea for him to elevate 205 Live by making occasional appearances on the “Purple Brand”.

On Oct. 16, WWE will air a special episode of SmackDown Live, commemorating the 1000th-episode of the program. Lately, SmackDown has been arguably the best weekly wrestling show, as the brand took things to the next level over the summer by starting the Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz, and Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair feuds. Their supporting rivalries have been compelling, too, creating a well-rounded two-hour show.

Rey Mysterio will make his return at SmackDown 1000, and he’s expected to become a regular part of the show. It will be exciting to see how Mysterio makes his entrance and who he feuds with first. Colleague Raphael Garcia went through five possible options, and I’d love to see a Mysterio vs. Shinsuke Nakamura feud down-the-road.

There’s no doubt that Mysterio is one of the biggest stars in wrestling, and he should fight for the WWE Championship and United States Championship in 2019. However, Mysterio also got his start in mainstream American wrestling as a member of WCW’s Cruiserweight Division (after spending one year with ECW). In total, Mysterio has won the WCW Cruiserweight Championship five times and the WWE Cruiserweight Championship thrice.

Mysterio shouldn’t be a regular member of the 205 Live roster. He’s graduated from being a full-time Cruiserweight. That said, there’s plenty to be gained by having Mysterio appear on 205 Live sporadically, and here are three reasons why this should be a possibility going forward.
