WWE Raw: Triple H, Shawn Michaels Issue Challenge to Undertaker, Kane
By Bryan Heaton
The worst kept secret in professional wrestling is finally out of the bag on WWE Raw: Shawn Michaels will come out of retirement at Crown Jewel. He’ll reunite with Triple H as D-Generation X — if Undertaker and Kane accept the challenge.
The Oct. 8 edition of WWE Raw started with a bang, didn’t it? It all got started with Triple H and Shawn Michaels coming down to the ring with sour looks on their faces. After the events at Super Show-Down — where Undertaker and Kane attacked the duo after the last time ever clash between Triple H and Taker — it was time for the legends to respond.
And respond they did. Triple H talked about the concept of respect — how it’s not easy to earn the respect of himself or HBK. He talked about his relationship with Michaels over the years, before Shawn took to the mic to explain himself.
Michaels revealed he’s stayed retired for nearly a decade — since losing to the Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVI — out of respect for the Dead Man. But after Super Show-Down, Michaels spent the long flight back to the United States thinking. When the plane landed, Triple H came up to him, and asked the infamous three words:
Are You Ready?
Clearly, Michaels is ready, because he and Triple H issued a challenge to Undertaker and Kane for a tag match at Crown Jewel on Nov. 2. It hasn’t been accepted yet, but come on: Triple H and Michaels already have brand new D-Generation X T-shirts! So it’s safe to say they’re back.
I’ve made my thoughts on HBK coming out of retirement pretty clear: I don’t think he should do it. There’s a big difference coming out of retirement at 37 than 53, after all. But this is what everyone apparently wants to see, and no professional wrestler ever actually stays retired, do they?
Using Michaels in a tag team match is probably for the best, at least for his first match back after eight years. It remains to be seen exactly what HBK will be capable of in his return, but right now, the nostalgia factor is driving this comeback. And there’s really no better opponent for Michaels to come back against than the man who retired him.
What do you think about a Shawn Michaels comeback in 2018? Are you for or against HBK stepping between the ropes as a competitor one more time? And what do you think about a D-X comeback in this day and age?
