Tonight’s episode of SmackDown Live left us with huge build-up looking towards WWE Evolution and WWE World Cup.

Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte

Becky Lynch and Charlotte start off the show. It’s not an ideal booking, especially since this is a high profile show, but Charlotte’s in the Mixed Match Challenge after the show, so it makes sense. The dueling chants of “Let’s Go Charlotte”, “Beck-y Lynch” are the most evenly matched they’ve ever been, and the action in the match is just as even.

Lynch gets thrown out of the ring a couple times, and every time it makes me nervous that’s she’s gearing up for a count-out victory. Both women become exhausted as the match goes on, Charlotte at one point not even able to stand up.

Becky actually does attempt to leave the ring to walk out and lose via count-out, but Charlotte’s having none of that and drags Becky back in. Becky grabs her belt to attempt to hit Charlotte with it again, but the ref catches her. He’s about to DQ her when Charlotte rolls up for a pin, which is countered by Becky.

There’s entirely too much action outside the ring for me to be comfortable with, and after a Natural Selection, Becky rolls out of the ring again, and Charlotte follows. The match ends in a count-out but the two women go down fighting, all the way up the ramp as a matter of fact.

Charlotte spears Becky Lynch right. Through. The LED board. Charlotte’s arm seems to be injured and bleeding by time the trainers are able to pull her off of Lynch.

Later on in the show, General Manager Paige announces that BECKY LYNCH vs. CHARLOTTE IS BOOKED FOR EVOLUTION IN A LAST WOMAN STANDING MATCH. SAY IT LOUDER FOR PEOPLE IN THE BACK. ARE YOU READY?

Samoa Joe vs. Jeff Hardy

We have a World Cup match featuring Jeff Hardy and Samoa Joe, who we hopefully have not taken completely out the WWE Championship picture. Joe starts in hard on Hardy (heh heh), but it’s clear Joe’s leg is still not 100%, and Hardy takes advantage of that as much as he can.

Highlights include a heavy foot by Joe right into the steel steps and Hardy ducks. Joe’s leg ends up being so injured and weak that the referee calls the match in favor of Hardy, and Jeff Hardy is on his way to the WWE World Cup at Crown Jewel.

Miz TV Featuring Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles/AJ Styles vs. Shelton Benjamin.

Miz TV features AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan, who are now booked in a WWE Championship match at Crown Jewel thanks to Bryan’s win at Super Show-Down against out inevitable dejected host.

Not surprisingly, Miz still can’t get over the fact that Bryan beat him, and that he didn’t have to cheat to do it. Miz tries to create as much tension between the two competitors as he can, twisting words left and right.

Bryan and Styles are civil and respectful as you’d expect, and but they’re still ready to pull their punches, and both remain steadfast in their belief that they can beat the other. Bryan and Styles stand face-to-face as Styles asks Bryan how good it feels to punch Miz in the face.

Not to be outdone, Miz goes off about how he’s better than Styles and Bryan, Bryan didn’t really pin him, blah blah blah.

AJ Styles has a match with Shelton Benjamin, who gives another stellar performance after his win over Daniel Bryan last week. Styles picks up the win however, and Miz is totally over the respect with Styles and Bryan as Bryan claps after the win.

One Night In Milwaukee, The Sequel

We finally have an answer to the Milwaukee saga. As Aiden English attempted to besmirch Lana’s reputation and insinuate he’d come on to him, Lana turned the tables and revealed what really went down – Aiden got rejected and was indeed very, very weird. Rusev attacks Aiden after he offers the invitation to Lana to have a Happy Aiden Night. I have a feeling that this is the end of Aiden English on WWE TV for a while, which is a real shame, but this isn’t the first time WWE broke up a successful team to have them feud for nothing, and it won’t be the last either.

Big Show vs. Randy Orton

A returning Big Show and Randy Orton have a qualifying match for WWE World Cup. Big Show gets a warm welcome from the audience with chants of “you still got it”. You have to expect there will be a lot done next week to highlight Big Show’s involvement in the infamous SmackDown match with Brock Lesnar next week at 1000.

Tonight, however, is not Big Show’s night, and Orton picks up a win with an RKO (not really) out of nowhere to advance to Crown Jewel.
