The Oct. 9 edition of SmackDown Live was heavy on in-ring action and focused on moving forward post-Super Show-Down in anticipation of Crown Jewel next month.

Last night’s WWE SmackDown was a consistently solid show from start to finish with a lot of focus on in-ring competition coupled with more storyline building for already-existing and new feuds.

The blue brand is compelling across all levels right now and that should continue moving forward.  With that being said, let’s take a look at a few grades from the Oct. 9 edition of WWE SmackDown.

5. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair

The SmackDown Women’s Championship scene has been dominated by two former best friends turned bitter enemies as of late.  Becky Lynch turned heel and dethroned Charlotte Flair at Hell In A Cell to become a two-time champion, but the feud has gotten even more intense after last night.

Lynch kept her title via disqualification at Super Show-Down this past weekend, but the rematch was made for last night when she defended her title against Charlotte in the night’s opening match.  The caveat, however, was if Lynch got herself disqualified again, she would lose her title this time around.

This match got a very good amount of time given its TV match status and in no real surprise, these two great performers put on a very good match.  It did start a bit slow, but the match turned out to be quite chaotic.  The Irish Lass Kicker tried walking out with her title, but The Queen was having none of it and she got Lynch back in the ring.

However, a scuffle on the outside caused both women to be counted out and Lynch retained the SmackDown Women’s Championship by default.  It was all capped off when Charlotte speared Lynch through part of the stage in a pretty vicious spot all things considered.  The rematch will take place at Evolution in a Last Woman Standing match after GM Paige announced it later in the night.

In terms of just this match alone, it was very good even with a non-finish and it ended up making this feud even better.

Final Grade: A-
