2. Rey Mysterio vs. The Miz

There are very few superstars that have embodied the underdog more than Rey Mysterio.  He made a career out of it and now with his return to the WWE after a few years, he has the chance to showcase his hall of fame caliber career to a new wave of fans.

It started last week when he went one-on-one with United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura in a World Cup qualifying match.  It was a dream match by most accounts and Mysterio got the big win to advance to the World Cup at Crown Jewel.  Last night saw him back in the ring following an episode of Miz TV.

Emotions carried over from Miz TV and Mysterio vs. Miz was made official.  In the first match these two have had together since SummerSlam 2012, they produced a very solid encounter.  It went back and forth for a while with both men pulling out all the stops.  Mysterio failed to hit the 619 on a couple different occasions, but in the end, the third time was the charm.

After hitting The A-Lister with a 619 and splash down finish, Mysterio got the win to build more momentum heading into Crown Jewel.  This was a solid match and hopefully, these two have more chances to compete against each other in the future with more time.  Mysterio seems like a legit candidate to win the World Cup tournament given his recent return and momentum.

It’s great to have The Master Of The 619 back and last night’s win over The Miz was more evidence in supporting that claim.

Final Grade: B+
