#5: Mickie James

Mickie James had to fight through a pretty horrendous women’s division with worse gimmicks to make it to this list.

James debuted in WWE Oct. 2005. She’s held the WWE Women’s Championship five times, and the Divas Championship once, making her second of five Divas to hold both titles.

Mickie quickly shot to the top, competing in the first women’s Falls Count Anywhere match with Melina in 2007, and going on a string of championship runs, ranking her second in most old WWE Women’s Championship title reigns, after Trish Stratus.

PWI ranked her the number one female wrestler in 2009, and Woman of the Year in 2009 and 2011.

All seemed lost when she was released by WWE in April 2010, stating the reason she was given by WWE was that they had a desire to “move in a new direction with their women’s division”.

However, James wouldn’t quit, and returned by way of the Nov. 2016 NXT TakeOver: Toronto event, competing against Asuka for the NXT Women’s Championship.

She didn’t win the title, but she returned to the main rosters Jan. 2017, quickly teaming up with Bliss, and staying pretty consistent with the pairing ever since. Since her return, she’s been in the first women’s Royal Rumble match as entry 26 lasting eight minutes, the first women’s Elimination Chamber match, and in the first WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal at WrestleMania 34.

James will team up with Bliss and face Hall of Famers Lita and Trish Stratus at Evolution in a tag-team match meant to stir up nostalgia.
