Alicia Fox Replaces Alexa Bliss At Evolution Due To Injury
Alexa Bliss will miss WWE Evolution 2018 due to an injury, and she has been replaced by Alicia Fox in a tag team match that will now pit Fox and Mickie James against Trish Stratus and Lita.
At Hell in a Cell, Alexa Bliss suffered an arm injury that kept her out of action for about a month, and while she was able to return about a week ago at a WWE Live Event in Bangor, Maine, she suffered another injury that will force her out of Evolution on Sunday, Oct. 28.
WWE.com announced that Bliss has been replaced by Alicia Fox, who will now team up with Mickie James against Trish Stratus and Lita. This will be a battle between two superstars who started in the Divas era, Fox and James, against two superstars whose heyday came in the Attitude Era in Trish and Lita. This will add an interesting dynamic to the match, and it could build a story where Bliss eventually has to face those two in some way.
WrestlingNews.Co originally reported that Bliss suffered a concussion at a live event. It seemed like she would be able to compete at Evolution despite the injury, as Mickie James said that she would “definitely” be able to compete on Sunday in an appearance on SiriusXM Busted Open Radio.
For what it’s worth, Bliss may have tweeted her surprise at the announcement on WWE.com.
As disappointing as it is to see that Bliss will be unable to compete in a match with three wrestling legends (James, Stratus, and Lita) at the most important Pay Per View of 2018), her health comes first. Concussions are brain injuries and must be handled appropriately by WWE, especially with questions regarding how Liv Morgan’s concussion was handled.
Sasha Banks recently suffered a concussion and needed time off, and her case is an example of how concussions should be handled as serious injuries that require the superstar to take significant time off. Like Bliss (arm injury), Banks missed about a month, was pulled from the Mixed Match Challenge, and returned in Bangor last week.
Bliss’s health going forward is the most important thing here. It stinks that she can’t participate in this “dream” tag match at the historic Evolution show, but she’ll get her chance to have more big moments in WWE, including with Stratus and Lita in the ring. It seems as thought they could compete at more shows after Evolution, which opens up some storyline possibilities involving Bliss and her stablemates Fox and James.
