WWE Evolution 2018: Nia Jax Wins Battle Royal, Ronda Rousey Next?
The WWE Evolution 2018 battle royal exceeded expectations, as fans were previously worried that it would just be like a regular battle royal. It proved to be an incredibly exciting 30 minutes of fast-paced action, and it was Nia Jax who stood tall at the end to earn a title opportunity.
From start to finish, the WWE Evolution 2018 was a prime example of just how hard the women in WWE work to produce entertaining matches. Every woman in this bout played their role to perfection, and there were so many memorable moments, whether it was the legends of WWE eliminating the IIconics or a quadruple suplex spot.
So many women of the past and present, such as Ivory and Ember Moon, were given an opportunity to shine brightly in this match. Zelina Vega, Ember Moon, Nia Jax, and Tamina were the final four in this battle royal (all four are minorities, which was an important moment that should not be lost in any takeaways from tonight), and the action was dramatic until the end.
Moon was in the ring against Tamina and Nia, with the crowd one thousand-percent behind her, especially after she exorcized one past demon by eliminating long-time rival Asuka. She was off to a torrid start against Tamina and Nia, who is likely her tag partner whenever the Women’s Tag Team Championships are released, eliminating Tamina after hitting another picture-perfect Eclipse.
Nia and Ember started going back-and-forth, and the two were in a life-and-death struggle on the apron to earn a title opportunity. However, Zelina Vega swooped in, as it seemed like she was eliminated earlier in the match. Vega thought she managed to dump both Nia and Ember to the outside, but her premature celebration was interrupted by an irate Jax.
After unsuccessfully pleading with the “Force of Greatness”, Vega thrown to the outside via a tremendous Nia gorilla press (Vega was thrown at Tamina to soften the fall) that should make highlight reels for years to come.
Jax wasn’t done there, as she hit Moon with a huge powerbomb before eliminating her friend, securing her title opportunity, As a member of the Raw roster, Moon will presumably face Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women’s Championship, as Rousey is fully expected to retain against Nikki Bella later on during Evolution. But anything is possible…
When asked by Charly Caruso if she’d prefer to face Rousey or Nikki Bella, Jax simply stated that she wishes both women luck and that both women need to cherish tonight’s victory while it lasts. Nia is coming for them, just as she always goes after her opponents with the utmost zeal.
Asuka, Naomi, and Nia have all won battle royals this year, and this is another example of WWE giving a talented woman of color an important victory. Nia needed a win like this to show her dominance, and while Ember didn’t win, her performance was just as worthy of high praise.
It seems as if Nia Jax will have her rematch against Ronda Rousey after the two tore the house down at Money in the Bank prior to Alexa Bliss’s match-ending cash-in, and I’m sure they’ll put together another brilliant bout.
