Brian Cage vs. Sami Callihan

I could have done without the whole “Brian Cage imposter” angle on Impact this week, because it’s a rather annoying heel trope that is never entertaining in this day and age. We’ve seen it before and while it gets some heat, the audience is mostly numb to it and sees it as a waste of time. It also didn’t the best usage of Sami Callihan’s skills as a heel, because he’s at his best when he’s creepy, mysterious, and barbaric.

In a lot of ways, Callihan is the perfect foil for Cage, because for as imposing as Cage is, Callihan is the only man fearless enough to truly think he has what it takes to defeat Cage. Callihan is still in a state of ecstasy after being the one to pin Cage at Bound For Glory, but it doesn’t seem like these feelings will last.

Cage, who is the X Division Champion, seems destined to get his win, but he’ll have to do it in Callihan’s home turf. Dayton, Ohio is a scary place when Callihan is in town, and the Crist brother will do everything in their power to make sure the leader of oVe sends a message to the rest of the Impact locker room that he’s superior to Cage.

There’s no doubt that Cage will be tested mentally. Throughout his career, Callihan has shown that there is no limit to his sickness. He will take inhuman amount of punishment, seemingly relishing in the agony, while defiantly staring his opponent in the eye before unleashing his brand of heinousness. Cage will have to break his own limits to win this match, and we could be in for a hell of a story at Final Hour.
